Monthly Archives: October 2012

October Snapshots

I haven’t posted a monthly snapshots post in awhile {since June!} and thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of what I’ve been up to this month. Here’s a quick look at the past 31 days: a Sunday “fall day” spent on my porch/the roof, a trip to Athens for Homecoming {SO much fun to see everyone again!}, a day trip spent with Mom, Dad and Hope, fun nights out in the city, dying my hair from blonde-ish to bright red, being asked to be Kristen’s bridesmaid! and celebrating the Giants winning the World Series! Also, most of the month was spent blaring The Lumineers and Taylor Swift’s new album.

I can’t believe tomorrow is already November. This month/year has honestly flew by – out of control! What did you do this month? Hope you have a lovely October 31st and Halloween! xx

Sick Day Essentials

The past few days I haven’t been feeling 100%. I think it’s a cold turned sinus-y problem turned lost voice {maybe, just maybe from celebrating the Giants World Series win!} turned pretty gross cough. Not good, but could definitely be worse!

Anyway, it had me thinking about my “sick day essentials.” Those things that are absolute musts for the days I feel under the weather. Of course, I wish I could add my mom to the list! She always seems to be the best medicine to the sick days.

{1} Peppermint tea. Lots of it!
{2} Random encouraging cards and notes
{3} Bubble baths
{4} Cozy clothes, preferably sweaters
{5} Soup!
{6} A book to read before bed
{7} Sleep. Lots of it!

What are your sick day must-haves? xx

Thursday Thankful List

T-H-U-R-S-D-A-Y! How has your week been? My weekend was a mix of fun and relaxing and every day this week has stayed busy. Monday I watched the Giants game {and now we’re in the World Series! Woo hoo!}, Tuesday I had a hair appointment {back to red!} and yesterday I went to see the Jukebox the Ghost show with the lovely Jenna. I have no set plans for this weekend except trying to beat this cold I have, watching the Giants and pretending to throw together some sort of Halloween costume. Who knows about that last one.

You probably know I’m a sucker for good quotes…I tend to always be looking them up and then writing and rewriting them all over. I found a few special ones that I wanted to share about thankfulness and gratitude. Enjoy!

You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink. — G. K. Chesterton

He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has. — Epictetus

Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. — William Arthur Ward

Whatever our individual troubles and challenges may be, it’s important to pause every now and then to appreciate all that we have, on every level. We need to literally “count our blessings,” give thanks for them, allow ourselves to enjoy them, and relish the experience of prosperity we already have. — Shakti Gawain

Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life. — Christiane Northrup

“Gratitude should not be just a reaction to getting what you want, but an all-the-time gratitude, the kind where you notice the little things and where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful.” — Marelisa Fábrega

dose of joy {by kellie}

meet kellie, who is by far one of the cutest and kindest girls i know! her and her roommates graciously let aim, court and i stay at their place during our athens visit and we had an absolute blast! here’s ten things that bring her lots and lots of joy:

1. Waking up without an alarm clock
2. Movie theaters
3. Being an aunt to the sweetest, cutest, most lovable little girl in the world (excuse the possible bias)
4. Uncontrollable laughter
5. The authentically vintage Ohio University poster from my grandpa that hangs in my room at school
6. Calls, texts and emails that are sent “just to check in”
7. Spontaneous trips to the pet store
8. Getting a new magazine
9. Freshly painted nails
10. Leaning on my friends … and letting them lean right back

what brings you joy? share with me via email and i’ll share on the blog soon!

Snapshots with Santi, Part 1

I’m seriously so awkward taking photos, but Santi and I snuck out of the office a few weeks ago to attempt a few portraits. To get me to stop paying attention to the camera, he had me tell him silly stories about my sisters to distract myself. Here are two of the photos he posted on his blog! I’m really thankful to have him as a friend {allowing me to play supermodel for five minutes is only one tiny reason} and really miss having him in San Francisco. Make sure to check out his blog to see some of his impressive work!

Happy Tuesday! xx
