Thursday Thankful List

Happy Thursday queen friends! How’s your week going? I’m having one of those “I literally blinked and it’s already Thursday?!” weeks but I am not complaining about it. It looks like this weekend will be a busy one, including a special Saturday morning visit from Melissa! I’m already looking forward to an early brunch and exploring the city with her.

The past week also reminded me how much I appreciate quality one-on-one time with my friends and just how thankful I am to have a kick@$$ group of friends. Today’s Thursday Thankful List shares just a few of the friend-inspired moments I’m thankful for.

A rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas lights

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. I’ve learned that making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life.” I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back. I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one. I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn. I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

My uncle posted this quote on Facebook late last week and I really wanted to re-share. He is inspiration to me because of his constant positive attitude and look on life. He refuses to let hard situations or bad things in life get the best of him – and chooses daily to live each day cheerfully. I know I’ve read or heard this quote from somewhere – and the end of it may feel a bit cliché – but it’s a really important reminder about life. Things can – and do – always get better. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle annoying situations. You will miss you parents – even if you don’t want to admit it. You will {in most situations} but given a second chance – and you should be thankful for that. You should go out of your way to make someone else’s day – and life – a little bit better and sweeter.

Skirt and green




It’s been really fun for me to slowly put together my apartment from scratch. I really love decorating {I think I get it from my mom!} and it’s been great to find ways to fill little nooks and crannies in our space. It definitely wasn’t intentional, but I noticed how many TOWERS of books and magazines I have throughout the apartment. Here’s a few of my favorite stacks/piles/towers — whatever you want to call them.

give the world a reason to dance

I’ve replayed this Pep Talk from Kid President video three times already – and I know I’m not the only one! This video is blowing up my Facebook and Twitter feeds and I love that everyone else is soaking up this kid’s inspiration.

A few of my favorite pieces of advice:
The world needs you to stop being boring.
What will you create to make the world awesome? Nothing if you keep sitting there.
We can cry about it or dance about it.
We were made to be awesome.
It’s everybody’s duty to give the world a reason to dance.
Create something that will make the world awesome.

Also, happy birthday to the most important kid in my life (I guess turning 16 makes you not a kid anymore…) – my baby sister Hope!

Loving you is RED

My sister Katie and I had an impromptu photo shoot fun on Christmas afternoon. Isn’t she just adorable? The bright red side of my grandparents’ barn served as a punchy backdrop, especially since I was already wearing so much red that day. To be honest, I don’t think I took my Hunter boots off once while I was home — but that’s another story.

Annnnd for some reason when I look at these photos, I can’t get the song “Red” by Taylor Swift out of my head. Not sorry about that one.

Thursday Thankful List: Beaches + Sunsets


It’s hard to not shout THANK YOU!!!! out loud after sitting peacefully on the beach looking at this sunset. We took an last minute trip to Ocean Beach on Sunday to watch the sunset. The trip was a wonderful reminder to accumulate experiences, rather than possessions and to appreciate the unnoticed. I’ve lived here almost two years and this was one of the only times I’ve visited the beach for the sunset. I need to go out of my way to look for – and be thankful for – the orange, yellow and pink rays of the sun, the crashing salty waves, the sky that stretches for miles upon end, the crunchy sand I walk in. Beauty in nature like this needs no photo filter – it’s perfect as is.
