Eat healthy! Bestowed's October Box

Can someone please tell me HOW October is almost over? This month flew by! A few weeks ago, I received the super special October Bestowed box and I’m finally getting around to catching up on my blog posts and sharing what was in the box! Better late than never, right? This month’s box was extra special because all of the snacks were GMO-free. GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. Just that sentence sounds gross to me. Unfortunately, they are found in many common snack foods and soy-based products. You’ll often find GMOs in products that are boxed, canned or bottled.

This month’s Bestowed box was jam-packed snacks that were not only GMO-free, but healthy, tasty and easy to toss in my purse and bring with me.

In this month’s box…

UNREAL Peanut Butter Cups: “candy” founded by a 13-year-od boy looking to mix sweet treats with no junk. These have {unlike the popular Reese’s candy} no hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, GMOs or artificial colors and flavors. {originally $4.49/12 individually wrapped cups}

Enjoy Life Seed & Fruit Mix: gluten-free, non-GMO, nut-free trail mix. I LOVE trail mix, so this was an awesome alternative to skip the nuts and have a healthier version. {originally $14.16/6 pouches}

FiberLove Cinnamon Raisin Bar: 48% of your daily fiber in one 130 calorie, delicious bar. Major yum.

The Good Bean Smoky Chili & Lime Chickpea Snack: I’ve been making my own crunchy chickpeas for awhile, but these are such an easy, healthy alternative. Bonus! These come in three flavors, including Sweet Cinnamon {MUST try!} and Sea Salt. I’m currently snacking on these as I type this…{originally $16/6 pack}

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70 Plant Based Protein Supplement: a perfect post-workout recovery. I don’t love the taste of protein powders, so adding this to a smoothie or oatmeal to mask the taste and get a great an awesome protein boost. {originally $29.99 for 16 oz.}

Nature’s Path Love Crunch Dark Chocolate Macaroon Granola: zero words for the goodness of this bag. INSANELY delicious and I will definitely be purchasing this granola next time I find it in stores. There’s 13 whole grains per serving. I also love that Nature’s Path donates the equivalent amount of food to a food bank in America for every bag purchased. {$18.99/3 bags}

Ultima Replenisher: swap out your afternoon coffee with energy powder {all you have to do is mix in cold water}

Way Better Snacks Simply Beyond Black Bean Tortilla Chips: seven simple ingredients in these tortilla chips including flax, black beans and quinoa. Pairs perfectly with hummus, salsa or guacamole. Yum, yum, yum. {originally $27 for 24 1.25oz. bags}

As you can see, I received a TON of snacks for the low monthly cost. Pretty awesome considering buying some of these snacks alone would cost the same as one Bestowed box. Plus, I would have never even know about some of these products if it wasn’t for Bestowed.

The best part is that you can get your first Bestowed box for almost 50% off {$10, instead of $19}. You’ll get a huge box packed with healthy snacks for the cost of like, four coffees {or two if you live in San Francisco…}. All you have to do is use the code HELLOTEN103 at checkout. This code is active through 11/20, but if you sign up now, you’ll be receiving the super awesome November box {stay tuned for more details on that!}. For those of you who love healthy snacks, but are sick of your same old hummus and crackers routine, I highly recommend Bestowed to discover new, tasty, healthy treats. xo!

September Bestowed Box

I shared about Bestowed previously and was thrilled when they asked me to review their September box! Bestowed is a healthy, organic monthly subscription box service. Their September box is the best yet with EIGHT delicious healthy snacks:

La Tortilla Factory White Whole Wheat Soft Wrap Minis: I don’t count calories, but 50 calories for one wrap?! That’s a huge yes.

Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks: these guys pack in three servings of fruit in one pack! They are 100% real fruit, freeze-dried, gluten-free with no added sugar. They taste like crunchy fruit chips!

Pearls Black Pitted Olives to Go: I’m new to the olives game but really enjoyed these. Love that I can throw them in my purse as an afternoon snack!

Popcorn, Indiana FIT Popcorn: all-natural, gluten-free popcorn! I’m literally eating this as I type and would 100% buy this in stores. While it makes sense to microwave popcorn for movie night, options are limited when you want popcorn on-the-go. This is a perfect {and super yummy} solution and I’m intrigued by their other flavors {sea salt? parmesan and herb? yes please!}

Somersault Snack Co. Cinnamon Crunch Somersaults: these are my airport go-to! I could eat these things all day, every day literally. I’ve tried seriously every flavor, including Pacific Sea Salt and Santa Fe Salsa. They are made of sunflower and sesame seeds and packed with 6g of protien and 3g of fiber. It was such a pleasant surprise to receive them in my Bestowed box!

I still need to try these three items, but have no doubt they will be delicious:

Happy Family Happy Squeeze Greek Yogurt Pouch

Nonni’s THINaddictives Cranberry Almond Thins

Pacific Natural Foods Hazelnut Chocolate Dairy-Free Milk

My favorite part about Bestowed is that the service enables me to discover healthy, delicious and easy snacks that I wouldn’t otherwise know about. Also check out these AWESOME recipes from the Bestowed community from items in the September boxes.

Bestowed boxes are just $19/month but you can receive $5 off your first box! Just use the code 5OFFBESTOWED03 when signing up. Seriously…this would be the best $14 you spend all month, I promise. Enjoy!

ARTICLE: Breaking Out of a Creative Rut

What I wish someone had told me early on in my budding adult life is that it is okay to let your creative work of choice go when you’re disappointed, stuck or starting to find other things alluring. Whether you write, paint, sing, or sell – all work is creative work in my book – it is okay to let go. And this is the big part: Letting it go does not mean you are quitting.

Decadent Detox with Stiletto and Spice

Decadent Detox

Happy Tuesday!
I recently was introduced to the lovely Claudine who who is the brilliant and beautiful personal chef and caterer at Stiletto and Spice. I’m going to be partnering with her on some social media work – make sure to follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

Anyway, I tried out a day of her Decadent Detox last week and was absolutely loved her food! As you may know, I’ve done a few juice cleanses before so I assumed this detox would be similar. Very wrong! I was full the entire day and still felt energized and cleansed. I started the day with a green smoothie {spinach, apple, cucumber, lemon} and chia seed pudding. Let me tell you — this chia seed pudding {chia seeds, vanilla, almonds, cinnamon} was so yummy. I could eat this all day, every day. For lunch, I tried Claudine’s japanese salad with wild rice, edamame and carrot ginger dressing. It was light and fresh, yet filling – I wasn’t hungry for the remainder of the afternoon.

Healthy living – which includes healthy eating – is something that’s very important to me. I also feel strongly that food {like everything else} shouldn’t rule your entire life so it’s important for me to find a balance between eating healthy and letting food control my life or overpower my thoughts. It can be really hard in our busy day-to-day lives to take the time to make healthy choices and Stiletto and Spice is a great place to start if you’re looking for some recipe inspiration or cooking tips.

Interested in healthy cooking and eating tips from Claudine or trying her food out for yourself? Visit here. Also check out the lovely Nichole’s review of the Decadent Detox here!

More exciting food adventures with Claudine to come — stay tuned!
